BEATRICE – With July rapidly getting closer, Dave Mlnarik with the Cornhusker State Games stopped by the Beatrice Rotary Club Meeting on Thursday.
“We are a nonprofit organization called ‘The Nebraska Sports Council’ and our flagship event is the Cornhusker State Games. The best way to describe it is, it’s an olympics for Nebraskans of all ages and abilities,” said Mlnarik.
The Executive Director of the event was the featured speaker at Valentino’s in Beatrice.
The Cornhusker State Games originated in 1985, and featured 19 sports with 4,000 participants. In 2014, that number was up to 60 sports and over 13,000 competitors.
Registration is easy to do at their website, and Mlnarik said that several deadlines are approaching quickly.
“The discount deadline is June 21st. You can register up until June 21st at the lowest possible price. Then, July 5th is the final deadline for most sports, so if you see the fireworks go off and you haven’t gotten your state games entry in, make sure you do it by the next day,” stated Mlnarik.
He believes there three reasons why so many people participate, and they are fun, family and just overall competitiveness.
The 33rd Annual Cornhusker State Games will take place July 21-30 in Lincoln.
