Deputies Apprehend Driver After Highway 2 Incident

SYRACUSE – A Lincoln man was taken into custody Sunday evening after a pursuit and confrontation with police near Syracuse.

Chief Deputy Mike Holland says deputies received a 911 call about a pickup truck stopped in the traffic lane of Highway 2. When deputies approached, a man was standing outside of the truck. He returned to the truck when deputies tried to talk with him and sped away.

Speeds varied from 35 to 80 mph as he traveled west on the highway, going into the highway median several times. The driver pulled over near Road 4.

Holland said it was a dangerous incident, but fortunately the 40-year-old Lincoln man was taken into custody with no one getting hurt. He said the man was having a psychotic episode and was taken to the Lincoln Crisis Center.
