District speech: HTRS wins C2-1 meet, Lourdes sending six to state

NEBRASKA CITY – Lourdes Central Catholic High School will send six students in seven events to the Nebraska School Activities Association State Speech Championship on March 22 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus.

State qualifiers include:

Duet Acting
Luke Partsch & Piper Monson – 1st Place

Renee Box – 1st place
Partsch – 3rd place

Serious Prose
Monson – 1st Place

Karinne Olson – 3rd Place

Ethan Roberts – 2nd Place

Humorous Prose
Reed Greger – 2nd Place
Logan Bakula – 4th Place

The Lourdes speech team is coached by Wendi Buggi.

The Knights hosted the Class C2-1 district meet on Wednesday and featured teams from Nebraska Lutheran, Palmyra, Weeping Water, McCool Junction, HTRS, Tri County, Elmwood Murdock, and Southern High Schools.

The Titans won the district title with two individual championships, including Grace Kanel (Humorous Prose) and Matilyn Stalder (Informative Speaking).

D2-1: Sacred Heart finishes on top in district speech meet

FALLS CITY – Falls City Sacred Heart won the Class D2-1 District Speech Meet on Tuesday in Falls City.

Del Casteel and Teresa Morehead (Duet Acting), Tanner Cromer (Entertainment Speaking) and Ciara Catlin (Informative Speaking) all earned individual district titles.
