Downtown Beatrice Building Front Rules, Committee Established

BEATRICE – A committee has been established and program guidelines put in place for a downtown Beatrice façade improvement program.

Beatrice city officials approved both steps Monday night.  Committee members include Laureen Riedesul, Michael Sothan, Paul Whaley, Carol Schuster and Tobias Tempelmeyer.

A state grant of about $375,000 will be used to help pay for building front improvements.   Beatrice City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says a building owner would have to match 25% of a project’s cost.  Projects would require city council approval.

Historical significance and environmental review are parts of the program.  Projects would have to be completed by November 1st, 2018, under the grant program.  Building owners would be reimbursed for the work they undertake.

The entire grant amount does not come to the city, but rather is paid out as projects are done.

The city council last night approved both the program guidelines and the committee to oversee it.
