COLUMBUS – Police reports say a drunk driver hit a utility pole on 27th Street, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Columbus Police Reports say a 48-year-old man was driving a 2006 Volvo S10 eastbound on 27th Street, when the accident occurred. CPD reports say the driver left the road to the north, at 29th Avenue, when it hit a wooden utility pole on the northeast corner of the intersection, breaking it off from the ground.
The man’s vehicle then got stuck on phone lines that had been knocked over with the utility pole, in the westbound lane of 27th Street, says CPD. CPD says tire marks on the ground made it appear that the man had attempted to drive away from the scene after becoming stuck, but was unable to move the vehicle.
The damage to the utility pole and attached lines was estimated at $2,000, in addition to $500 in damage to the street light, and $5,000 in damage to the vehicle.
CPD reports say alcohol was a factor in the accident, and the man was cited for the incident, which occurred at 3:16 a.m. on Sunday.
