Beatrice–A donation shortfall over the winter holidays is prompting the American Red Cross to issue an emergency call for blood donors to give blood. Communications manager for the Red Cross Samantha Pollard says at the moment the Red Cross has less than a three day supply of most blood types on hand which is below the ideal five day supply needed to respond to emergencies and daily hospital needs…

Pollard says the flu bug that exploded over the holiday season has kept many donors away from blood drives. She encourages people who plan to give blood to stay home if they are not feeling well…
