BEATRICE, NE – No. 1 seed Exeter-Milligan (13-1) will play for an MUDECAS title on Friday night after defeating No. 4 Freeman, 39-31, at the Beatrice Auditorium on Thursday night.
The Falcons (9-5) meanwhile saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
As expected, this game was tight throughout. Freeman struck gold early, ending the first quarter on a 7-0 run. The Falcons also led 19-16 at halftime.
The game went back-and-forth for much of the second half, but Freeman got into foul trouble late, and Exeter-Milligan took advantage at the foul line.
Senior shooting guard Kate Jansky was especially smooth, going 6-for-7 at the charity stripe and finishing with a team-high 16 points.
Jansky, who already leads Class D2 in three-pointers made (38), hit a game-high three triples on Thursday.
Senior Katherine White finished with seven points, but also had nine rebounds, four assists and a block.
The Falcons were led in scoring by junior small forward Addison Dorn, who finished with 13 points. Macy Holland and Brylie Hartwig each scored six.
Ultimately, free throws and three-pointers are what decided the outcome. While the Timberwolves went 10-for-14 at the foul line as a unit, Freeman went just 2-of-6.
The Falcons had only one made three-pointer all game – it came from Dorn in the first half. E-M on the other hand knocked down four shots from beyond the arc.
Exeter-Milligan will now face No. 6 Sterling (11-3) for the girls’ A Division title on Friday evening at 8:15 p.m. The Jets, winners of their last four in a row, upset No. 2 Falls City Sacred Heart, 25-23 in overtime on Thursday.
In the B Division title Friday, No. 2 Tri County (5-8) will take on Pioneer Conference rival and No. 1 Diller-Odell (9-5) at 6:30. The Griffins beat No. 5 Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer 57-47. The Trojans meanwhile edged Palmyra 27-21.
Both of the A and B Division title games will be carried on Ol’ Red 99.5.
