FAIRBURY, NE – 33-year-old Clayton Brandt of Fairbury, the driver of an SUV that collided with a semi on Highway 15 Tuesday, has died at Bryan Medical West Campus in Lincoln, according to multiple social media posts Wednesday evening.

The time of death has not been made public.

The accident occurred just before 1:15 p.m. Tuesday about four miles south of Western on the Jefferson-Saline County line. A semi tanker trailer traveling northbound swerved to try and avoid a silver 2007 Pontiac Torrent driven by Brandt.

The SUV and semi collided nearly head-on, according to the accident report from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The semi-driver, 33-year old Adam Gordon of Juniata, found Brandt unresponsive and trapped in the vehicle.

Brandt suffered severe traumatic injuries. Gordon was checked and released in Fairbury Tuesday afternoon.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, but dense fog is believed to have played a major factor.
