FAIRBURY – A Fairbury home was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.
Fairbury Fire Chief Steve Zimmerman says crews were called to a house on the corner of 6th and M Streets around 1:30 a.m. Zimmerman said it took just three minutes for the first firefighters to arrive at the two story house that was already fully involved.

The home was a total loss and city crews brought in an excavator at 6 a.m. to tear down the remaining cinder block walls.
:20 “…strolling around it.”
Zimmerman says the owner, who lived in the house alone, was not present when the fire started and returned home around 2 a.m. The owner declined assistance from the Red Cross and told firefighters he would stay with friends.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but is believed to have been an accident.
:17 “…leave it at.”
Zimmerman said the heat from the blaze caused minor damage to a neighboring house.

Crews remained on the scene until about 8 a.m. No injuries were reported.
