Former State Fire Marshal, Beatrice Fire Inspector Passes Away

BEATRICE – A former Beatrice Fire Inspector who rose to become Nebraska State Fire Marshal, has died.

Dennis Hohbein, of Rogersville, Missouri…formerly of Beatrice, died January 17th at the age of 78.

A Fox Funeral Home obituary notes that Hohbein became a Beatrice Firefighter in 1965, and later the Beatrice Fire Inspector.  He was hired by the Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office in 1975 and was promoted to Deputy State Fire Marshal for the local district…a position he held for 17 years.

In 1995, he became safety coordinator for the Beatrice State Developmental Center, then returned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office in 2000 as Assistant State Fire Marshal.

In 2003, Hohbein was appointed as Nebraska State Fire Marshal, serving in that post until his retirement in December of 2006.

A celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice.
