NORFOLK, NE — Ice scrapers and spinning tires are the dominant sounds in Norfolk over the lunch hour.
Freezing drizzle has been falling since 10:00 AM making road conditions slick. The Nebraska Department of Transportation has all highways in the Norfolk and Columbus area listed as completely covered with ice.
Forecasters predicted the peak intensity of the storm to be in the early afternoon hours in northeast Nebraska, with precipitation tapering off after 6:00 PM. However, wind chills are expected to dip below zero overnight, meaning untreated roads will continue to be icy.
City of Norfolk street crews are on the roads dumping brine trying to improve conditions.
