Getting a New Highway Surface, East of Beatrice

BEATRICE – U.S. Highway 136 resurfacing is focusing on the east edge of Beatrice, this week.

It’s part of a nearly 8-mile project between Beatrice and the junction of U.S. Highway 136 and Nebraska Highway 4, east of the city.

A Harlan, Iowa company is doing the $3.88 million project. It includes asphalt overlay, grading work, guardrail and bridge repair.

Traffic is being maintained with the use of a pilot car and flaggers, reduced to one lane in areas. Bridge repair work less than a mile east of Beatrice also cuts traffic to one lane. New asphalt surface was being installed this week at the east edge of Beatrice, near Beatrice High School. There is reduced traffic speed in the project area.

Nebraska Department of Transportation officials say the work will be completed late this year.
