Gray Accused Of Stabbing Man Over Dog Custody

NEBRASKA CITY – Police arrested a Nebraska City man Sunday after responding to a stabbing on First Avenue.

John Gray, 26, is charged with assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

An arrest affidavit says Gray and a Nebraska City woman approached Justin Howson as he was walking his dog.

Howson told police they accused him of stealing their dog. Howson said when he turned to take the dog home, he felt pain in his back and later discovered he was bleeding.

Gray told police he confronted Howson about the dog and there was some shoving, but denies use of a knife.

The affidavit says police found a knife in the front seat of a car that Gray and Cassandra Behrends had been in.

Nebraska City rescue transported Howson to the emergency room for his injury.
