Hickman Man Injured in Highway Collision, With Cattle

BEATRICE – A Hickman man was injured when his vehicle struck a group of cattle last night, about three miles south of Cortland.

Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies say Paul Bade was driving a Ford Taurus west on U.S. Highway 77, when the car collided with several head of cattle that were on the highway, just east of Southwest 2nd Road.

Bade was taken by a Clatonia Rescue Squad to Bryan LGH West Trauma Center in Lincoln, with head and neck injuries.  The injuries were not considered life-threatening.  The accident, which caused extensive damage to the car, happened at about 8:40 p.m.

U.S. Highway 77 was closed to northbound and southbound traffic for about an hour, while crews removed debris from the highway and investigated the accident.  The Nebraska State Patrol assisted, diverting southbound traffic east, on Nebraska Highway 41.  It was unclear how many cattle were injured or killed.

Clatonia and Cortland Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene of the accident.
