Highway 75 crash near Auburn claims life of Pawnee City man

Two people died on Nebraska roads in separate crashes over the weekend, the Nebraska State Patrol said Sunday.

Travis Ries, 26, of Pawnee City, died Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 75 about two miles north of Auburn. Ries was a passenger in a vehicle heading north on Highway 75 about 8:15 p.m. when the driver tried to pass another northbound vehicle that was turning west.

Ries, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. The names and conditions of the drivers were not immediately available.

In a separate accident, Nicholas Pachta, 17, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene Friday of a one-vehicle crash about 8:45 p.m. in Hamilton County. Pachta was driving in the area of Nebraska Highway 15 and O Road near Aurora when his vehicle lost control and crashed.

A passenger in Pachta’s vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to a State Patrol spokesman. The name of the passenger was not immediately available.

Both collisions remain under investigation.
