Highway Superintendent Re-Appointed On Split Vote

NEBRASKA CITY – Otoe County commissioners voted 3 to 2 Tuesday to re-appoint Jon Brinkman as the county’s highway superintendent.

Commissioners Rick Freshman, Jared Sornson and Ron Hauptman voted in favor and commissioners James Parsons and Dean Speth voted against.

Freshman said Brinkman, who began working with the roads department as a grader operator in 1999, completed training so the county can receive federal aid funding. He obtained his highway superintendent license and has been the “lead supervisor” for the roads department since 2012.

Brinkman is responsible for day-to-day operations at six county shops and oversees 25 employees.

Parsons said he recognizes Brinkman’s abilities and values his job performance, but has concerns regarding the salary for the position, which is currently $63,398.
