BEATRICE – A downtown Beatrice fundraising event in a newly refurbished building drew 250 to 300 people, Friday night.
Main Street Beatrice held their Taste of Spring fundraiser at the Vintage Venue…the revamped former Radio Shack building at 7th and Court. The business renovation is the project of Colleen and John Schoneweis.
Main Street Executive Director Michael Sothan says it’s a prime example of the movement toward building renovation in the downtown, aided by a Community Development Block Grant program.

The after-business event gave people a time to socialize and get a look at the interior of the business, which will provide space for various catered events. Sothan says beyond Friday night’s gathering, Main Street is gearing up for some special events in the coming weeks.

Sothan says Taste of Spring is an important fundraiser for the downtown organization, helping to support the organization’s goals of downtown development and sponsoring projects that spur attendance in the downtown area.
Sothan says new businesses are opening and several building front improvement projects are underway. Under the grant program coordinated through the City of Beatrice, projects eligible for funding to help defray renovation costs, must be completed by this fall. Seventeen projects applied for funding and were approved by the City of Beatrice, in the grant program.
