Kids Give Their Assessment of Grade-Level Buildings, in Beatrice Public Schools

BEATRICE – This past year, the move to grade-level elementary buildings in Beatrice was not without some heartburn from parents.  But, if you really want to know how it’s going… ask the students, themselves.

They gave their impressions before the Beatrice School Board, Monday night.

This is the first year of the grade level plan, with Lincoln Elementary a kindergarten through second grade building…Stoddard Elementary grades three through five…and Paddock Lane a K-through-five building that also houses the district’s special education programs for elementary students.   This district converted Cedar Elementary into the Beatrice Community Preschool.

Elementary Principal Kevin Janssen says one thing he’s noticed is the amount of collaboration between teachers, under the new system.

Janssen says the young students are doing very well under the grade-level system.  He said good communication between students, staff and parents have made the system work.

School Board President Jon Zimmerman said, “this came out the way we hoped it would”….because it was a very stressful change that was not easy to make.
