Labor Day Weekend, at Homestead National Monument of America

BEATRICE – There’s lots of activities to participate in, over the Labor Day holiday weekend, at the Homestead National Monument of America.  Park Ranger Susan Cook says Saturday is Living History Day Extravaganza, with activities at both the Education and Heritage Centers.

A Saturday program at 11 am and 1 pm at the Education Center, will be given by a farmer and poet.

Sunday activities feature a car show of the Homesteading era.  Cook says the car show examines the theme of technology, and how the industrial age affected homesteading.

The car show on Sunday, will be at the Education Center.

There will be collectible displays and a special Sunday presentation on squatters and homesteading.  Sue McLain of Beatrice will have clothing featured at the monument, with some of the outfits relating to the car show.

On Monday, Labor Day, the Freeman School at the monument will host a spelling bee with seven different categories, beginning at ten a.m.

The Beatrice Daily Sun is sponsoring trophies for the spelling bee.  At one p.m. on Labor Day, a presentation will be given on penmanship…and the importance of that skill, in country schools.
