Lant: “We’re back to finish what we started in 2014”

SYRACUSE, NE – Nebraska City police officer Jeff Lant is running for Otoe County Sheriff, again.

In a Facebook video posted before the Germanfest Parade in Syracuse Saturday, Lant announced his candidacy by saying, “we’re back to finish what we started in 2014.” His original announcement was made on May 29.

Current Sheriff James Gress defeated Lant in the 2014 general election, 2,820 votes – 2,518 votes (52.77% – 47.12%). Gress is retiring and will not run for reelection.

In his video, Lant lays out three platforms he will bring to the sheriff’s office, including:

  1. Providing 24-hour coverage by a on-duty law enforcement officer.
  2. Refine the department’s leadership structure to include a “Criminal Investigator” position in order to insure accurate investigations.
  3. Create three separate patrol districts in order to provide reliable coverage across the county.

The 2018 Nebraska general election will be held on Nov. 6.
