BEATRICE – As of today, four recreation areas in the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District are closing for the season, and the NRD is taking safety precautions over target shooting at two areas.
The Big Indian Recreation southwest of Wymore…Swanton Wildlife Management Area north of Swanton…Walnut Creek north of Crete…and Willard L. Meyer Recreation area east of Tobias are closing, as of today.
There will be limited access to all four areas, for fishing and hunting. All four are open to hunting, fishing, trapping and hiking…by foot traffic, only.
At an NRD Board meeting last week, the directors for the district approved prohibiting target-shooting at two locations, because of safety concerns. The board approved a ban on blue rock or target shooting at Walnut Creek Recreation and Wildlife Management Area, and at the Clatonia Creek Recreation and Wildlife Management area.
Hunting is allowed in accordance with rules and regulations, from September 1st to May 31st. However, hunting is not allowed within 100 yards of any public use or activity area…including picnic area, parking lots or boat ramps.
