Man flown to Lincoln hospital after collision with grain truck

A 27-year-old man was flown to a Lincoln hospital Wednesday night after the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a grain truck on U.S. Highway 34 near Elmwood, Nebraska.

Jace Keckler of Weeping Water was taken to the Bryan Medical Center with serious injuries, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said. No information on Keckler’s condition was immediately available Thursday morning.

Investigators determined that Keckler was westbound on Highway 34 at 8:19 p.m. in a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta when it rear-ended a 1975 Ford F700 grain truck that was slowing to turn off the highway. The grain truck driver, Arland Schroder, 70, of Eagle, declined treatment.

The Volkswagen became partially wedged under the truck and Keckler need assistance to be freed from the vehicle.
