BEATRICE – Several mayors were elected in Tuesday’s voting. Beatrice Mayor Stan Wirth ran unopposed this year and will serve a second term. He previously announced it will be his final term as mayor of the city.
Wilber Mayor Roger Chrans won another term, defeating Rob Prokop, 382 to 205. Crete Mayor Roger Foster also won reelection, with a 795 to 528 victory over Thomas Parker.
Pawnee City has a new mayor. She is Deborah Klein, who defeated John Dahlgren by a vote of 192 to 165.
There were some contested county commission races across southeast Nebraska.
In Saline County, it was a split decision for Republicans and Democrats. In the Saline County District 1 race, Republican Stephanie Krivohlavek defeated Democrat Delmar Mares (MARE-ish), 629 to 426. In the District 2 race, Democrat Phil Hardenburger defeated Republican Willis Luedke, 543 to 385.
In Pawnee County, incumbent county commissioners won reelection. In District 2, Democrat Ron Seitz defeated Republican Brad Stake, 263 to 155. In District 3, Republican Jan Lang defeated Democrat James Zelenka, 263 to 95.
In Jefferson County, a very tight outcome in the county assessor race, with Democratic incumbent Mary Banahan defeating Republican Mick Vocelka by eight votes….1,470 to 1,462. The Jefferson County Clerk’s race was won by Republican Kristina Riggle, who cruised past Democrat Shaun Friedrichsen, 2,174 to 746.
In Johnson County, there was a close race for county commissioner in district 3, with Republican James Erickson unseating Democratic incumbent Les Agena (AG-a-naw), 330 to 302.
Johnson County incumbent County Treasurer, Nadine Beethe…a Republican, defeated Libertarian John Sterup, 1,319 to 440.
