Memorial Day Observance Held at Evergreen Home Cemetery

BEATRICE – Beatrice area residents remembered those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their nation, on Memorial Day.   Those attending the ceremony held at the Evergreen Home Cemetery Veterans section heard Pastor Suzanne How, a U.S Marine Retired Sergeant Major say Memorial Day is for those who can no longer speak for themselves.

How, who served 27 years in the military including three deployments to Iraq, says the United States is the only country in the world to dedicate fighting tyranny wherever it occurs.

The pastor at Wymore and Stateline Churches said as long as evil exists in the world, there will always be those who seek to take away the freedom Americans enjoy.    She said citizens should vote, speak out on the issues, and give encouragement to young people to be those who protect freedom in the future.

The Memorial Day Ceremony was sponsored by local veteran’s organizations, the Beatrice Cemetery Association and Gage County Veterans’ Service Office.   The American Legion Riders provided a flag line for Monday’s remembrance.
