Missouri River Could Swell To Two Feet Below Levee

NEBRASKA CITY – The National Weather Service’s hydrograph published at 11 a.m. Tuesday is forecasting a Missouri River level at Nebraska City this weekend two feet below the top of the federal flood levee.

The hydrograph shows the river rising from 10 feet Tuesday morning  to the 18-foot flood stage on Thursday.

It is forecast to rise above 23 feet on Friday, which could match last year’s highest level of 23.3 feet.  Riverview Marina would be closed and North First Street would flood.

If the river reaches 25 feet, portions of Highway 2 in Iowa would be under water. The top of federal flood levee is 27 feet.

The river last exceeded 27 feet in 2011 and 1997.
