HAMBURG – The Nishnabotna River above Hamburg, Iowa, is near flood stage Wednesday morning and is expected to crest in the moderate flood stage on Friday.
At 8 a.m., the river level was 23.5 feet and rising toward the 25 foot flood stage. It is forecast to continue rising to 30 feet.
At 27.5 feet, Highway 275 is subject to flooding. The parking lot near the gauge is among the first areas to flood, followed by the topping of local farm levees.
If the river reaches 33 feet, Interstate 29 would be closed south of town.
