NEBRASKA CITY – Police investigated separate accidents over the weekend involving a motorcycle and a bicycle.
Motorists called 911 at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday to report a man laying under the Highway 2 overpass on Highway 75.
A Harley Davidson came off from the ramp to turn onto 11th Street at Nebraska City, but slid on sand and shook the driver off. Frederick Grossman, 61, hit the pavement, but the motorcycle continued on its wheels several hundred feet.
An accident reports says Grossman was transported by medical helicopter from CHI Health St. Mary’s.
Police also investigated a bicycle accident on Friday.
The driver of a Ford pickup was stopped at Central Avenue and 11th Street and told police he momentarily saw a bicycle rider on the sidewalk at the intersection.
The pickup driver, 42-year-old David Ferryman of Red Oak, Iowa, said he looked away to check for traffic and when he looked back he could no longer see the bicycle. He began to pull forward and then saw the head of a child above the hood of the truck.
He tried to stop, but not before bumping into the bicycle. Minor injuries were reported to the eight-year- cyclists, Payton Wixom.
