Nebraska City Man Charged With Guns, Meth

NEBRASKA CITY – A sheriff’s deputy arrested Matthew Steele, 31, of Nebraska City on Sunday for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession with intent to deliver.

An arrest affidavit says the license plates on a car driven by Steele had been expired since 2015. He reportedly gave the deputy an expired insurance card and a Tennessee driver’s license.

The deputy said Steele alerted officers to a handgun in the car and the affidavit says the 9 mm handgun had been reported stolen out of Omaha. Two rifles were recovered from the car’s trunk.

The affidavit says a safe in the trunk contained methamphetamine.

A passenger in the car, 39-year-old Dina Liesveld, was arrested for suspicion of possession.

In a separate case Sunday, police arrested a 21-year-old Nebraska City man for suspicion of trespassing and resisting arrest.

An arrest affidavit says the man refused to leave his grandparents residence on Fifth Corso and struggled when officers attempted to place handcuffs on him.

The man  told police he was upset because his grandfather had taken a knife from him.
