NRD Bans Target Shooting, Over Public Safety Concerns

BEATRICE – The Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District Board recently acted to ban target shooting at some recreation areas governed by the district, near Crete and Clatonia.

The step was taken out of safety concerns for people who live in the area.   NRD Manager Dave Clabaugh says signs are now posted, prohibiting target shooting.

Clabaugh says some of the shooters were also leaving trash, targets and other refuse at the recreation areas.  At one area near Clatonia, shots were being fired into the back of a dam.    Clabaugh says if that would continue, it might cause some erosion damage, in addition to being a safety concern.

The NRD also previously halted target shooting at the Bear Creek Recreation Area northeast of Beatrice, because of the proximity of homes nearby.
