Pedestrian Killed on Interstate, Near Manhattan, Kansas

BEATRICE – A pedestrian was struck and killed in an accident along Interstate 70 near Manhattan, Kansas early Sunday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victim as 21-year-old Matthew Bailey, of Mayetta, Kansas.  Investigators say the victim was walking across the interstate about 13 miles southeast of Manhattan when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle traveling in the left lane.

The vehicle, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, was driven by 23-year-old Cyrus Renfrow of Greenwood, South Carolina.

Renfrow and a passenger, 21-year-old Ryan Peterson of Billings, Montana…were not injured.

The accident, which happened at about 3:45 a.m., shut down Interstate 70 for a couple of hours.
