Police Say Barefoot Woman Walked In Snow, Stole Car

NEBRASKA CITY – Police say a 33-year-old Omaha woman, who crashed her car on the J. Sterling Morton Beltway, walked barefoot through the snow to a gas station where she stole another car.

Cpt. Lonnie Neeman said the woman was wearing no shoes or socks when she turned up at Tag’s One Stop at 7:30 a.m. Police say her feet were covered in blood. The woman told police her daughter was coming from Omaha to pick her up.

Police officers located her car in a roadside ditch, but while they were at the scene, they learned the woman got into a running Chevrolet Malibu at a gas pump and drove away.

The daughter told police that the woman suffers from mental illness and may not be taking her medications. She called police around 12:30 p.m. to say her mom had called from the Red Oak, Iowa, area.

The Malibu was found in the Red Oak area about three hours later and the woman taken into protective custody. The owner of the Malibu told police the car had sustained serious damage.
