Polite Johnston Given Jail Time For Stolen Pickup

FALLS CITY –  District Judge Julie Smith sentenced transient John Johnston to 125 days in jail for his role in the theft of an inoperable pickup truck from a Falls City residence.

Johnston said he was on his way from Topeka, Kan., to Omaha and stopped by in Falls City. He said he was told by others in Falls City that the 1983 truck had been abandoned, so he helped load it on a trailer and haul it across town.

Johnson: “I do apologize your honor,” he said after rising from the defendant’s chair.

“I did not come to your town to cause problems. I have worked with a pastor here to get transportation to a shelter in Omaha when I’m released. I apologize to the court and to the people of Falls City.”

The judge gave Johnston credit for 48 days served and said, with good time in jail, he could sit out $150 in court costs.
