BEATRICE – Recreation areas in the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District will be closed to vehicle traffic for the season, Tuesday.
NRD officials say that includes the Big Indian Recreation Area southwest of Wymore, the Swanton Wildlife Management Area north of Swanton, Walnut Creek north of Crete, and the Willard Meyer Recreation Area east of Tobias.
There will be access to the Meyer, Swanton and Big Indian areas for fishing and hunting. Because of safety concerns, blue rock or target shooting will be prohibited at Walnut Creek and Clatonia Creek recreation areas.
During the winter, the Lower Big Blue NRD will be constructing new picnic shelters at Big Indian and Willard Meyer Recreation areas. Officials are hoping to have those completed in time for the 2019 camping season.
Recreation areas typically reopen for the season in late March.
