Richardson County Board Sells Land to Roads Department for Upcoming Harlan St. Re-Surfacing

FALLS CITY – The Richardson County Board of Commissioners sold over 500 square feet of land to the Nebraska Department of Roads on Tuesday.

The county sold the small amount of land to NDOR in preparation for a re-surfacing of Highway 73/Harlan St. that is coming next summer.

The land that was sold to NDOR was two street corners next to Harlan St., one next to 17th St. and the other next to 18th St. The department of roads needs the land in order to build ADA compliant sidewalk ramps.

The county will receive $740 for the parcels of land, valued at $1.40 sq. ft.

Greg Weinert who heads negotiations at the Department of Roads, was on hand at the board meeting to complete the deal. He told the commissioners that technically speaking, NDOR is purchasing the land through deed of eminent domain.

Richardson County attorney Doug Merz was also present to oversee the purchase.

NDOR made a smaller deal with the Falls City School Board in March, with the board providing ‘temporary easement’ of school property in order to install sidewalk ramps.

Falls City Public Schools was compensated $100 in that deal.
