FALLS CITY – Residents in Falls City have recently been reporting a phone scam, that is targeting their banking information.
According to Mary Darveau of Frontier Bank in Falls City, customers have reported a stranger claiming to be a Social Security official, asking for their routing and banking number. The scammer claims that the customer will receive a raise on their Social Security check if they give out their personal information.
Darveau says the Social Security office will never do this and advises to immediately hang up, and if you question the phone call, to always call your financial institution.
She also says around a half dozen customers have reported this scam to the bank, a few of which did give out their banking information.
F & M Bank in Falls City has heard about the scam, but has not had any customers call as of noon on Wednesday.
