Southeast Community College Projects Taking Shape

BEATRICE – To say there’s construction going on at the Beatrice Campus of Southeast Community College, is a bit of an understatement.

A sizable part of the southwest campus area is busy with construction of a new residential hall, a dining hall…and soon, a new all-purpose classroom building will be going up.

Beatrice Campus President Bob Morgan says crews have been working hard to catch up on the residential hall, which was plagued by late-fall wet weather.  Morgan says the hope is to have both residence and dining projects completed by the start of a new semester system, next August 26th.

The new residential hall will house 152 students and include a residence hall manager apartment.   The basement will serve as a storm shelter.

Morgan says concrete was scheduled to be poured Tuesday for the dining hall, just south of the residence hall.

If the dining hall is not ready for next fall’s semester, the Storm Center Café in the Kennedy Center can be used, in the meantime.  Caspers-Sampson Construction is the general contractor for both the residence and dining halls.

A third project, that of a general classroom facility, will keep the campus modernization work hopping.

Hausman Construction is the contractor for the project.

Two other projects are planned.  After acquiring the nearby Beatrice Business Campus building, remodeling will be starting for the building’s use in the agriculture program.  Morgan says that might include a small addition.

Taken together, Morgan says the projects show a commitment to Beatrice and the southeast part of Nebraska.

SCC is also working to complete the sixth and final learning center being established by the college.  The center is being built in Falls City.
