BEATRICE – Upgraded emergency communications in southern Gage County is now a reality. Gage County Emergency Management Coordinator Lisa Wiegand says new equipment on a leased tower near Odell, became operational over the weekend.
:20 “then move forward”
Tower space is being leased on a structure owned by Horvath Communications. The site is replacing a county-owned tower at Blue Springs, which is to be demolished.
Wiegand says the contractor doing that work, Zephyr Communications, will determine the date and time when the structure is taken down.
:05 “have that signed”
Gage County officials have been discussing for several months, resolving the issue of the old county-owned tower at Blue Springs. The tower’s condition is so poor that tower crews had refused to climb it.
Yet, the structure remained standing during severe wind storms last summer that knocked down a former cable TV tower, just southeast of Beatrice.
