Stanton County PPD Director to Run for Nebraska Lesgislature

PILGER – A current Stanton County Public Power District Director is entering the race for a term-limited state senator’s seat.

Doug Oertwich announced on Thursday that he is running for the open District 22 seat in the Nebraska Legislature, which covers portions of Platte, Stanton and Colfax Counties. District 22’s current senator, Paul Schumacher of Columbus, can’t run again due to term limits.

Oertwich says he would be excited to follow in Shumacher’s place if he gets elected.

“I think I have good values and can make an impact,” says Oertwich. “There’s some problems to work through and taxes are the biggest issue, but I’m excited to go give my chance at it.”

Oertwich has also served on the Stanton County Planning Commission and is on the advisory board for the Costco/Lincoln Premium Poultry project going in near Fremont.

“I’m excited. It’s my first day. We announced this morning, and I have met at some coffee shops and met with some people, and I’ve had some good people tell me that I should run and go for it, so I’m going to do it,” says Oertwich.

So far, he is the only one to announce his intentions to run for the District 22 seat.
