Syracuse Pursues Pool House, Highway 50 Safety

SYRACUSE – Jamie Prokopec and the Syracuse pool house committee came before the council with a timeline for a new pool house and asks for city support in a grant application.

Mayor KC Ortiz credited the committee for its careful planning and hard work to replace the 1960s pool house.

The timeline indicates grant applications and completion of the new pool house in May of 2021.

Highway 50 north of Syracuse, at the area of Love’s Travel Center and the new hospital, continues to be a point of contention.

The state Department of Roads is putting in a turning lane into the new hospital, but the project has been prolonged because of the rain.

The sheriff’s office has been attempting to enforce the 35 mph speed limit.

The brush pile cameras have been put in place and are working well as citations have already been issued.

The city is also working with Unite Private Networks to connect city hall, the utilities, fire and library with fiber-based communications.

City officials say the city network could serve as a “back bone” for  business connections in the future.
