COLUMBUS – Do you know a Correctional Officer? If so, this week is the perfect time to reach out to them.
Platte County Supervisors approved the week of May 7th through the 13th as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week.
The week was proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, and is meant to recognize the men and women who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections, according to the county resolution.
The week is also meant to raise awareness of the duties, hazards, and sacrifices made by correctional workers, and employees from the Platte County Sheriff’s Department and Platte County Detention Facility are being recognized.
“Platte County recognizes employees of the Platte County Sheriff’s Department and Platte County Detention Facility for their role in safeguarding the citizens of Platte County by providing safe, secure, and humane incarceration of offenders with their custody,” says county resolution 17-11.
