Truck Driver Cited For Defective Brakes After Highway 50 Collision

LOUISVILLE – Cass County Sheriff William Bruegemann reports an injury accident Wednesday at Highway 50 and Church Road.

A GMC Sierra driven by 86-year-old William Wegener was struck from behind by a truck and semi-trailer when he slowed to make a turn. Rescue squads took Wegener and his passenger, Michael Eggert, to Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha.

The truck driver, 36-year-old William Frederic of Lincoln, told investigators that the truck’s brakes failed prior to the collision.

The sheriff says a commercial motor vehicle inspection of the truck resulted in it being taken out of service. Frederic was cited for defective brakes.
