U.S. Highway 77 in South Beatrice, Reopens

BEATRICE – One of two main highways in Beatrice was reopened early Sunday night, after flood waters from the Big Blue River receded enough to allow South Highway 77 to accept traffic, just south of a river bridge.

Street Department personnel reopened the highway to travel on the interior two lanes, at around 6:45 p.m.

As of Monday morning, all four lanes of the highway had been reopened, south of the river bridge  Police officers initially were stationed on scene Sunday, to monitor traffic through the area.

West Court Street remained closed, as Monday morning.  The river dropping below 26 feet allows South Highway 77 to be reopened, but the river level must drop below 23 feet before U.S. Highway 136 reopens, in west Beatrice.  North 2nd barricades remained in place at 2nd and Ella….and another set of barricades were in place at 4th and Grant.

At Chautauqua Park, the main entrance to the park, Grable Avenue, remains closed.   West of the Park, Perry Street is also closed because of flooding.
