PERU – An internationally known violinist and acclaimed mental health activist will visit Peru State College next week.
Vijay Gupta will speak at the school on Monday, March 27th at 7 p.m. as a part of the college’s Distinguished Speaker Series.
Gupta, is a violinist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a post he’s held since age 19. The musician is also a mental health activist, and has co-founded a musical program, Street Symphony, which dedicates its times to performing classical music live for mentally ill, imprisoned and homeless people, throughout the world.
According to a press release from Peru State, Gupta is interested in the connection between music and the body. He believes music has a strong regenerative power for the body.
The evening event is free to the public.
