BEATRICE – Two inches of snow and brisk weather didn’t keep people away from a long-time tradition, Sunday night.
The annual Winter Lights Festival took place on the grounds of the Gage County Courthouse, where the lights attached to the building and nearby trees are turned on, for the first time during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
KWBE’s Bryan Cook emceed the event, which features music by the Homestead Harmonizers. A soup supper was held at the nearby Christ Church Episcopal.
Gage County takes care of the utility cost and flipping the switch on the lights, each evening. Private donations finance replacement and upkeep of the bulbs, wreaths and wiring.
The courthouse will be lit up during the evening, throughout the season into early January.
