17 hits and 11 runs help Creighton knock out series win over Kansas State

Creighton pounded a season-high 17 hits in an 11-1 rout of Kansas State at TD Ameritrade Park on Sunday, earning the weekend series win.

Parker Upton homered and finished 3 for 5 with four runs and two RBIs. Will Robertson drove in four with a double and home run for Creighton (16-7).

The Bluejay offense started rolling early as CU sent eight men to the plate in the first inning and plated four runs. The Jays recorded four hits to begin the game off Wildcat starter Jaxon Passino, who pitched the ninth inning the night before in Kansas State’s 9-2 win.

Creighton added two more in the second when Robertson, who had a two-run double in the opening inning, lined a homer to right that scored Isaac Collins to make it 6-0. It was Robertson’s fourth home run of the season.

Upton’s fifth homer of the year gave the Bluejays a 7-0 advantage in the fourth, and Jordan Hovey knocked in Jake Holton later in the frame to make it 8-0.

Creighton starter Evan Johnson (4-0) went five innings, allowing one hit and no runs with eight strikeouts while walking four to earn the win.

Omaha Creighton Prep grad Dylan Phillips drove in Kansas State’s only run in the seventh with his fifth double of the year.

Next up, the Bluejays visit Nebraska on Tuesday.
