DES MOINES — Adalberto Mondesi hit a leadoff home run in a four-run first inning, and the Omaha Storm Chasers led the whole way in a rain-shortened, 7-4 victory over the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park on Tuesday.
Ryan O’Hearn had three hits for the Chasers, and Cam Gallagher had three RBIs, with two coming on a double in the first inning after Mondesi hit his first homer of the season and Frank Schwindel singled to bring in O’Hearn.
Omaha tacked on two more runs in the third inning to chase Cubs starter Duane Underwood (0-3).
Chasers starter Heath Fillmyer (2-1) went five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks to earn the win.
Iowa plated two runs off Eric Stout in the bottom of the seventh to pull within 7-4. Jason Adam came on to pitch the last 1⅔ innings, earning his first save.
Mondesi led off the ninth with a double, then the game was delayed by rain and eventually ended.
Mondesi, Gallagher and Ramon Torres all finished with two hits for the Chasers. Efren Navarro had three but was the only Cub with multiple hits.
The teams meet again at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday.
