After late 3 ties game, Sacred Heart keeps repeat hopes alive with overtime win

LINCOLN — Falls City Sacred Heart’s Lauren Parrish hit her first career three-pointer with 5.5 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and the top-rated Irish kept their repeat hopes alive with a 52-51 victory Friday night in the first Class D-2 state tournament semifinal at Devaney Center.

Parrish, who almost didn’t play basketball this season after suffering an ACL injury during the volleyball season her junior year, finished with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Falls City Sacred Heart (26-1). Parrish is averaging 14 points and 6.5 rebounds through the state tournament.

Randee Witt contributed 14 points off the bench and Sara Wertenberger had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Irish.

The Irish advance to Saturday’s 8:30 p.m. Class D2 championship game at Pinnacle Bank Arena. They won the tournament last season, 47-37, over Wynot.

Sarah Monahan and Audra Kippes scored 14 points apiece for Hyannis (21-3), which will play in the third-place game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln East.

Tara Foltz scores 20 as St. Francis tops Exeter-Milligan

LINCOLN — Humphrey St. Francis defeated Exeter-Milligan 74-58 in a Class D-2 semifinal that featured 15 combined 3-pointers.

Tara Foltz had 20 for the Flyers, who will face Falls City Sacred Heart in the final Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
