LINCOLN — Alex Gordon probably won’t be able to attend his induction into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Gordon’s Kansas City Royals will be playing in Detroit on Sept. 23 while the Lincoln Southeast graduate is honored at Lincoln East’s auditorium with 11 more athletes, five coaches, two contributors and one official.
Gordon is a three-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove Award winner in his 12 seasons with the Royals. He is the most decorated Nebraska high school baseball player in the majors since Bob Gibson.
Also entering the hall as athletes: Rik Bonness of Bellevue; Richard Brown of Omaha South; Tom Heller of Kearney; Christina (Houghtelling) Hudson of Cambridge; Trevor Johnson of Lincoln Northeast; Keith Jones of Omaha Central; Janet (Kruse) Sellon of Blair; Jack McCartney of North Platte; Ben Plucknett of Beatrice; Danis (Richards) Willet of Benkelman; Katie (Robinette) Kock of South Sioux City.
Other inductees are coaches Max Kurz of Millard West, Duane Mendlik of Wisner-Pilger, Russ Ninemire of Sandy Creek, Rochelle Rohlfs of Omaha Marian and Diane Rouzee of Grand Island Northwest, contributors Tot Holmes of Gothenburg and Bob Whitehouse of Omaha and official Dick Morrissey of Omaha.
Tickets to the induction ceremony are $25 for adults and $10 for K-12 students. Pre-kindergarten children are admitted for no charge. Tickets will be available through the Nebraska Sports Council in Lincoln.

Great Moments in Sports: Friend football, 1933, completed a 6-0 record playing 11-man football with only 11 players on the roster.
Dominant Dynasty: Spencer-Naper boys basketball teams 1999 to 2007, which compiled a 216-19 record that included a 56-game winning streak, two state championships and three runner-up finishes.
Ron Gustafson Inspiration Award: Sam Schukei, a Kenesaw senior who lost his lower left leg in a lawn mower accident at 6. He is a four-year letterman in football, played basketball and qualified for the state track meet in the discus.
Fischer Family Award: Del and Marilyn Stracke Family of Stuart.
Golden Anniversary Teams: 1968 Aurora football, 1968-69 Valentine wrestling.
Silver Anniversary Teams: 1993 Hastings football, 1993-94 Deshler girls basketball.
