AUBURN – The Auburn girls basketball team has a goal to make back-to-back trips to the state tournament for the first time in school history.

The Bulldogs qualified for the school’s third trip to the tournament last season and lost in the first round to Lincoln Christian, 47-33.

Auburn is riding a four-game winning streak heading into Friday’s home game with Fairbury. According to Head Coach Grant Cole, if they want to make a strong run in the second half of the season, they’ll need to work to improve their defense.

“We’re still not where we want to be defensively and we’ve got to improve with getting after it more consistently. When we do play defense we have to finish it off by rebounding.”

The Bulldogs and Jeffs will tip-off at 4:30 p.m. with the boys game to follow. Both games will be carried on Today’s Best Country, B103 (103.1 FM,
