Baby Cakes hand Storm Chasers seventh defeat in eight games

METAIRIE, La. — Chad Wallach homered and drove in four runs Saturday night as New Orleans blanked Omaha 5-0 in the opener of a four-game series.

The Storm Chasers (12-24) lost for the seventh time in eight games as they struggled to break through against starter Trevor Richards. Richards (2-0) scattered three hits and two walks in six innings, striking out seven.

Jacob Turner pitched three innings and struck out two to earn his first save.

Wallach, who entered Saturday hitting .178 in 13 games with the Baby Cakes (19-17), came to the plate in the fourth with two on and no outs.

He drove a 2-0 pitch from Scott Barlow (1-1) over the left-field wall to chase the Omaha starter and give New Orleans a 4-0 lead. Wallach added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly, scoring JT Riddle.

The series continues Sunday at 1 p.m. Dillon Peters will start for New Orleans. The Chasers have not announced a probable starter.
